Alba Adventures – Season 6 Episode 5 – The Outposts – Pico Mountain, VT

The Outposts

Rutland- An overlooked Outpost,
Situated away from major highways,
Has been the setting for comic book superheroes,
And the backdrop for heroes of another kind, (like gold medalist Andrea Mead Lawrence)

Its railroad and high quality marble, attracted immigrant workers, that help to create this town, and to become one of the world’s leading producers of marble.

When factories closed Rutland saw its decline, but now it has its revival.

Just 9 miles east you will find Pico’s own Outpost,

Though rarely open,
Its enthusiastic patrons wait with anticipation,
For the conditions to be right.

Often overshadowed,
This little area has been preserved for over 50 years,
With its most coveted expert terrain.

We still enjoy much of what Pico has to offer,
With more terrain than most mountains in the Northeast, (almost 2000 vertical feet)
There is still plenty to enjoy.

When Pico’s oldest chair finally opens,
You know it will be a good day.

Sharing these times with friends,
Exploring the woods,
And being with family,
Few things can be better.

Skiing here is all natural,
Which makes this a special experience.

A place for die-hards
And those seeking a true adventure.
A day here will impress you.

Even though it has seen less use in recent years,
And is often forgotten
Those that have experienced it,
Would not change a thing.
This is the beauty of the.. Outpost.

“In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous.” Aristotle
